A dedicated clinical and bioengineering symposium exploring arterial compliance, pulsatile cerebral hemodynamics, CSF fluid mechanics, and intracranial biophysics.
The Windkessel effect accounts for arterial compliance and the transformation of pulsatile cardiac output into steady capillary flow. In the intracranial vault, this biophysical buffering occurs within a non-expansile volume, directly linking microvascular compliance with cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) pulsatility, venous outflow resistance, and intracranial elastance.
Concurrently, the brain produces significant metabolic heat that must be cleared via cerebral perfusion and neurofluid pathways. Intracranial thermodynamics examines heat exchange mechanisms, thermal clearance efficiency, and their alterations in states of altered perfusion, traumatic brain injury, and hydrocephalus.
The Symposium brings together leading neurosurgeons, bioengineers, and researchers to discuss recent clinical insights, advanced phase-contrast MRI flow analyses, and lumped-parameter computational modeling.
